The Global Entrepreneurship Summit is a worldwide renowned event for its potentiality in bringing together great minds in the entrepreneurial sector from all over the world. The main purpose of the summit is to create an avenue where entrepreneurs can share ideas, thoughts and innovations that may help in promoting entrepreneurship practices. Moreover, the summit aims at connecting emerging entrepreneurs with leaders from business, international organizations and governments looking to support them. Since its inauguration in 2009, the GES has been taking place in the developed countries and it is only in 2014 that it happened to be hosted in Morroco, a country in the Northern part of Africa.
This year’s (2015) GES was held in Kenya. This marked the first time in history that the event took place in the Sub-Saharan Africa. Another history made was the fact that the current president of the United States of America, His Excellency Barack Obama, was among high profile personalities who attended the summit.
Obama’s visit remains historical in the sense that since Kenya’s independence, there is no single president of the United States who has ever visited the country while still in power.
Despite the big names being in attendance, one major question still lingers among many Kenyans: “what could be the impact of this summit to the Kenya’s entrepreneurs and the economy at large? This question forms the basis of further empirical examination.
